The UAE is revising the official fees that apply to a range of actions relating to:
- national trade mark applications / registrations filed directly with the Trade Mark Office; and
- international registrations designating the UAE under the Madrid Protocol.
National applications and registrations
A number of changes in official fees are due to come into effect on 14 November 2025. The main points to highlight are as follows:
- Expedited (same day) examination of trade mark application
- New official fee: AED 2,250 (approx.USD 620)
Previously, there was no formal process for expediting a trade mark application.
- Appeals against the rejection of a trade mark application
- New official fee: AED 5,000 (approx.USD 1,370)
Previously, appeals against rejections could be filed without paying an official fee.
- Appeals against opposition decisions
- Reduced official fee: AED 3,750 (approx.USD 1,030), for an opponent appealing against an opposition decision. This is a reduction from AED 7,500 (approx. USD 2,055).
- Unchanged official fee: AED 7,500 (approx. USD 2,055), for an applicant appealing against an opposition decision.
- Trade mark renewals
- Reduced official fee: AED 5,750 (approx. USD 1,580), for renewing a registration before the expiry date. This is a reduction from AED 6,500 (approx. USD 1,790).
- Reduced official fee: AED 6,500 (approx. USD 1,790), for a renewing a registration during the 6-month grace period following the expiry date. This is a reduction from AED 7,250 (approx. USD 2,000).
- Applications to cancel a trade mark registration
- Reduced official fee: AED 7,500 (approx. USD 2,055), for filing an application to cancel a trade mark registration. This is a reduction from AED 10,000 (approx. USD2,740).
- Complaints against alleged trade mark infringements
- New official fee: AED 2,250 (approx. USD 620), for filing a complaint with the Trade Mark Office in relation to an alleged trade mark infringement.
- Applications to register geographical indications and certification / inspection marks
- New official fee: AED 6,500 (approx. USD 1,790)
This is a new official fee following the Trade Mark Office’s introduction of a system for registering geographic indications (GIs) earlier this year.
The official fee is same as for registering a standard / traditional trade mark (ie, a word mark, logo mark or non-traditional trade mark).
- Trade mark applications
- Unchanged official fee: AED 6,500 (approx. USD 1,790)
The official fee for registering a standard / traditional trade mark (ie, a word mark, logo mark or non-traditional trade mark) is unchanged.
- Reduction in fees for SMEs
- Reduction: 50% Small and medium-sized enterprises and projects (SMEs) that are members of the UAE National Program for SMEs (SME Program) are entitled to a 50% reduction in official fees payable to the Trade Mark Office.
- Waiver of official fees for people of determination
- Waiver: 100%
Persons of determination (people with disabilities) are entitled to a full waiver of official fees payable to the Trade Mark Office.
These changes in official fees are introduced pursuant to UAE Cabinet Decision no. 102 of 2025. These changes come into effect on 14 November 2025 following the publication of the Cabinet Decision in issue no. 807 of the UAE Official Gazette (issue date 15 September 2025, released in October 2025).
International registrations (IRs)
With effect from 2 November 2025, the individual fee payable to designate the UAE in an IR is reduced to Swiss Francs 1,420 (approx. USD 1,750) from Swiss Francs 1,630 (approx. USD 2,035).
This change follows the appreciation of the Swiss Franc since the UAE acceded to the Madrid Protocol in 2021. The effect of the change is to recalibrate the official fee for an IR designating the UAE so that it is approximately the same as the official fees payable for a direct national registration (as it was when the UAE joined the Madrid Protocol).
The change in individual fee is introduced pursuant to Information Notice no. 25/2025 issued by the Director General of WIPO on 2 October 2025. The change in individual fee applies for each class of goods or services, whether for an international trade mark application, a subsequent designation, or a renewal.
